Dr. Marion Perpick-Breton (M.Sc.,Ph.D, M.D.,FRCP(C),ICEEFT Certified)
Dr. Perpick-Breton has a scientific background, holding a Master’s degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry, a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry, and a year of research in Medical Genetics prior to obtaining her Medical Degree at the University of Toronto, Canada. She is a General Psychiatrist with specialty training in Child, Adolescent and Marital Psychiatry. While in Ontario, Dr. Perpick-Breton was affiliated with two major hospitals and also acted as consultant for Child Welfare organizations across Canada. As such, she conducted numerous Assessments of Parenting Capacity and Custody and Access, and presented expert testimony, for the Courts. Dr. Perpick-Breton has been extensively trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Insight-Oriented Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Medical Hypnosis and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples. Notably, Emotionally Focused Therapy is one of only two scientifically validated approaches to working with couples in varying levels of distress, and Dr. Perpick-Breton is one of only two Psychiatrists in Canada, and the only Psychiatrist in Western Canada, to be an ICEEFT Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist and is a Supervisor-in-Training. In particular, Dr. Perpick-Breton has married her expertise in the application of Emotionally Focused Therapy with her vast knowledge base and experience working with the gamut of psychopathology. Dr Khalid Sohail is a Psychiatrist with over 30 years of experience working in mental health. He is a highly skilled psychotherapist with expertise and particular interest in treating clients diagnosed with Personality Disorders and/or those with relationship difficulties. Together with co-therapist and partner Bette Davis, R.N., B.N., M.N., he runs a demanding private practice called Creative Psychotherapy Clinic in Whitby, Ontario which offers combination therapy, including individual, relationship, family and group psychotherapy, tailored to the needs of each individual presentation.
Also an author, Dr. Sohail has written prolifically on a wide range of subjects, including mental health. Dr. Martin Breton (M.Sc., M.D.)
Dr. Breton’s background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Computer Science, a Masters degree in Condensed Matter Physics, and 4 years of research in Medical Genetics from the University of Toronto, where he also completed his Medical Degree. He is a Family Practitioner with extensive training and experience in Mental Health. He worked at Centre For Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, Ontario for 3.5 years, where he was in charge of both the Dual Diagnosis and Geriatric Units. His expertise and knowledge base around Psychiatric medications has been an asset to his medical practice. Additionally, he has completed the most intensive training available in North America in Medical Hypnosis, and is particularly skilled in its application. Dr. Catherine Krasnik (M.Sc., M.D., N.D., FRCP(C))
Dr. Catherine Krasnik is a Consultant Staff Psychiatrist at Niagara Health System and Assistant Clinical Professor at McMaster University. She has completed numerous court reports addressing the issues of Fitness to Stand Trial and Criminal Responsibility in Canada, and more recently, in New Zealand, where she was the Forensic Psychiatrist physician lead at Nga Taiohi, the National Youth Bicultural Forensic Service in Wellington. Prior to this post, she worked as the Clinical Lead and Forensic Psychiatrist at the Syl Apps Youth Centre since 2010. This is a medium-secure youth forensic mental health facility in Ontario, Canada that is comprised of a secure treatment unit, a unit for remanded youth with mental health concerns, and a separate unit for youth who have been found Unfit to Stand Trial or found Not Guilty By Reason of Insanity. She completed her medical training with an MD, PhD from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 2006. She has specialist qualifications in Psychiatry, and Forensic Psychiatry with a subspecialty designation in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada since 2011. She also has completed visiting fellowships in ECT (Columbia University) and rTMS (Duke University). She has been a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons since that time. She has worked in the field of forensic psychiatry since 2010 and has routinely provided psychiatric reports to the court. She holds public appointments to the Canadian Consent and Capacity Board since 2012 and the Ontario Review Board since 2014. The Ontario Review Board is a specialist adjudicative panel that performs reviews of forensic clients designated as Unfit to Stand Trial or Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity. She has given expert evidence to the court and has been instructed by the court, defence and the prosecution. Her areas of research and special interest include Conversion Disorders, consultation Liaison/medical psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, forensic psychiatry and independent medical evaluations.
Dr. Sebastian Cohen (M.Sc., M.D., FRCP(C))
Dr. Sebastian Cohen has a scientific background, holding a Master’s degree in Human Biology prior to obtaining his Medical Degree at the Université Grenoble Alpes in France. He is a General Psychiatrist with training from the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 and McGill University. He has been extensively trained in and has developed expertise with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). He is both fluent in French and English.
Dr. Cohen is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Dalhousie University and is a senior psychiatric consultant for the Miramichi Regional Health Authority. Dr. Karen Lefko (M.D., FRCP(C))
Dr. Karen Lefko is a General Psychiatrist with specialty training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
She completed her residency at the University of Alberta in 1998, the latter part of which was focused on child and adolescent psychiatry. This included supervising the Anxiety Disorders Day Patient Program at the Glenrose Hospital in Edmonton and assessed and treated school aged children in the Glenrose Affective Disorders Clinic. As well, she has worked in private practice at Child Psychiatry Associates and has been a consultant psychiatrist at the CASA Centre in Edmonton.
Dr. Atul Khullar (M.D., FRCP(C))
Dr. Atul Khullar is currently appointed as Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the university of Alberta. He is the medical director of the Northern Alberta Sleep Clinic in Edmonton and is an expert in sleep medicine, which focuses on sleep, as well as sleep related conditions and disorders. He diagnoses and treats sleep-related conditions, such as sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, as well as circadian rhythm disorders. He also conducts general psychiatric assessments for the evaluation and management of psychopathology. In particular, Dr. Khular offers his expertise in psychopharmacology in the form of specific consultations for challenging psychiatric cases.
Dr. Lucinda Kunkel (B.Sc., M.D., FRCP(C))
She weaves mindfulness based practices into her psychotherapy and is certified to teach yoga. She is well versed in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy for tolerance and processing of deep emotions as well as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Family Based Therapy for Eating Disorders. She is coauthor of "Patient and Family Centered Care: Critical Partnerships when Treating Adolescent Anorexia Nervosa" a chapter in the textbook "Paediatric Patient and Family-Centred Care: Ethical and Legal Issues" and is currently involved in research regarding how youth with anorexia nervosa experience inpatient treatment.
